Republic of Texas Café in Volcan Update
Apr 10th, 2007 by Don Ray
I saw this update in hours and thought I would pass it along.
The Republic of Texas Cafe will open for breakfast beginning this Friday, April 13 at am. We will then be open for breakfast Tuesday through Friday, 7am to 10am, all day Saturday and Sunday . Our lunch and dinner hours will continue to be Friday, Saturday, Sunday only.
We will offer a full American breakfast plus Tex-Mex breakfast with all kinds of breakfast tacos, huevos rancheros, etc.
Remember, we start Friday at 7am and will serve breakfast all weekend and through the week, closed only on Monday.
Thanks,
Michael
Here is my previous post on the restaurant.

Michael has posted a note in one of the Yahoo groups (VEP) that he is closing the restaurant:
Due to complaints about my inability to give a 25% discount to retirees
I am forced to close my restaurant. There is not and never will be
room in small restaurant pricing to give a 25% discount to anyone.
Michael
I have seen the post. I am hoping he changes his mind. It will be a shame if it shuts down, but I guess those that complained will be happy. There are never enough good restaurants and this one had a chance to be really unique.
A couple of months ago the Hotel Milan doubled the rack rate from $30 to $60. They told me that the reason was to cover the jubilado discount, which is 50% on some days of the week. We were able to negotiate a lower rate, but it wasn’t the $30 anymore. The RoT could raise their prices 30% to be able to discount food at 25% for everyone.
Some stores put coupons at the entrance that one can use when in the store (or restaurant). Only one discount per customer - jubilado or coupon, both 25% off. The RoT could give everyone a discount based upon age, sex, national origin, height, hair color, etc. In other words, everyone qualifies for a discount. Have a frequent diner card. There are many ways one could turn this issue into a promotion to advertise the restaurant.
It seems to me that one of these types of adjustment would be simple for the Republic of Texas to make. It just seems to me that something else is going on…
There are always several ways to skin the cat. It could also be that the owner just decided that some of the locals in Volcan were going to be too hard to please and complain about everything and just decided to pack it in. Only time will tell.
