Remember To Call Home
Mar 20th, 2007 by Don Ray
The other day I received an email from someone in the US whose parents had moved to Boquete. He and his brother were concerned because they hadn’t heard from their folks in six weeks and didn’t know how to contact them. I sent an email to Lee, at Boquete Guide, and he tracked down a contact and within an hour the concern was over.
Now I realize that it is easy to come to paradise and forget that mad crazy world you left behind, but don’t forget family. They tend to worry when they haven’t heard from you.

Don Ray…about our daughter in California who forgets to call home as often as she should, do you have any good contacts there?
They probably did it on purpose, hoping that the world would forget about them. Can’t say I blame ‘em, wish I could do that myself.
Frank - Sorry I don’t. However you can send her the URL to this post in an email and say, “Hint Hint”.
Sylvain - you may be right. I feel like that sometimes myself.
Have basic internet connection already (128K)
Just installed Skype (free software)
Paid $12 for a headseat w/microphone
Logged onto Skype, paid $10 for call out option (US credit card used)
Fired it up and am talking to relatives & friends for 2.1c (cents)/min.
Also upped to a ‘call in’ phone number in the area code where most calls will be made. Cost $12US for 3 months including voicemail!
So, for less than $35, we are set for awhile…
We are very pleased with the service already!
Well there you go. Sounds like you are all fixed up.
In my case, I’ve been an expatriate a couple of times. My folks say they heard more from us when we lived overseas than when we live 500 miles away in the next state. (Unfortunately, it’s true.)
Shame on you!
dear don ray,
