TexMex Rumor
Mar 10th, 2007 by Don Ray
I read the following in a Yahoo Group. I may have to drive up to Volcan to check it out. If anyone eats there, I want to know if it really is TexMex and what the basis for that comparison is.
At last - we will have great food at reasonable prices in Volcan at Michael’s “Republic of Texas Tex-Mex Cafe.”

I noticed the other day that the pizzaria in New California (Volcan) had changed names and been remodeled. I was on the bus to David but saw that it was not open yet. Possibly today or tomorrow. Will check it out Monday or Tuesday and post it. I forget the name, Texas ????? something or other. My friend Dorothy just called and is going to go check it out.
Glad we have some on the TexMex trail.
Don, that is the new restaurant across from Berards grocery store at the northwest end of town. It is being opened by my new friend Michael Farenthold and his wife Patricia (we live just around the corner).
He’s calling it Texas Republic Restaurant, I believe. Prominently displayed on the dining room wall are two equally large flags - one for the Republic of Texas, the other for the Republic of Panama. Sam Houston is given a prominent place also along with pictures of some Comanches and a beautiful painting of the Texas hill country.
Went in to check on him the other day and boy, did it smell good in there. He’s not open yet (dealing with the endless water supply problem) but he states that they will be open by the weekend of 17 de Marzo.
Should be good chow - our hopes are high.
Hi Rich. You check it out and if it is truly TexMex, I will have to give it my taste test.
