Antojitos Mexicanos Taqueria has Moved in Boquete
Mar 1st, 2007 by Don Ray
I had to go up to the Boquete post office today and that gave me the opportunity to have some Mexican food at Maritriny’s Antojitos Mexicanos Taqueria. You remember on a January 15th post, that I told you the restaurant was moving across the street from Melos.
I drove by where she was supposed to move and she wasn’t there. After asking several people I found that she had moved to a location across the street from the Boquete Country Inn whose photo follows.

If I hadn’t known where to look, I would not have found her. Her new spot is festive and colorful like before.

Her menu has gone up a small amount, but since her rent had doubled, that is very understandable. Her food is just as good as always and this is still the best place around to have Mexican food in Chiriquí. I recommend the mole or chili, but everything is first rate. It is all prepared fresh while you wait, so if you are there when a big crowd enters, have a nice glass of wine and relax because the food will be worth waiting for.
Here is the area where you will normally find Maritriny. Tell her Don Ray from Chiriquí Chatter said hello.

I asked her why she had not moved across from Melo’s. She said that before she was able to move in, the property owner rented it to a different person who came in offering more money. He didn’t honor the commitment he had made to her and didn’t even bother to call her. I also have a problem with the person that rented since it was understood that there was a verbal contract and he still asked to have the contract canceled and rent to him. Sort of typical business practice in Panama, but not one that I approve of.
When life gives you lemons, you just have to make lemonade and that is what Maritriny has done. I like her new location and I am glad she recovered from the business obstacle that was tossed in her lap.

Don: You are right about her food - really consistently very good. I forgot to add that to my recent paragraph about restaurant price increases in Boquete. We like her new spot very much - it gives more of a Mexican cantina feeling than her old one — and for Maritriny, the blessing is that she now has plumbing that works all the time!!
Hi Wendy. Thanks for the comment. There is nothing better than plumbing that works. I am glad my plumbing is still in good shape.
