David – The Clock IS Ticking
Feb 12th, 2007 by Don Ray
A few weeks back, I took several photos of Parque Cervantes, which is scheduled to be reopened during the March David Fair. At that time I had asked if the Mayor was going to do anything about the people that were living in front of the church across the street. I was assured that it had been brought to the Mayors attention and it would be taken care of by the time the park had opened.
One of my readers brings tours through David and he wrote me yesterday that the problem was not being taken care of and it was really a disgrace. He said on his most recent tour that the fellow in the photos below had gotten up and urinated in public on the church steps in the middle of the day.
This morning I was out and decided to see if the fellow was still living in front of the church.
As you can see, he is.

In this close-up, you can see that it has been some time since he has bathed.

I understand that there are poor people in David. There are plenty of beggars. However most try to bathe and return to wherever they live at night. This fellow never leaves the church steps. I think that the mayor of David needs to take action and show more respect for the church. This is really going to be an eyesore when the park opens.
Mr. Mayor are you really planning on doing something about this?

To me it looks like he is protesting. Have you talked to the church’s pastor? He should know what’s going on his doorsteps.
The times when I have been by there the doors are padlocked.
This is kind of funny to me. In the NorthWest (Seattle and Portland areas), they actually have full-on homeless tent cities at the churches. In Panama, you want to get rid of the one homeless guy.
To be clear, I am NOT saying you’re wrong (considering the circumstances), it just strikes me as funny.
I doubt if Portland would be so forgiving for their homeless urinating on the church’s steps during the middle of the day.
[...] David celebrity because he gave me a big wave. It appears that he has changed his shirt from the last time I saw him. He must keep several changes in the blue bag to his right. I just wonder where he [...]
