An Interesting Series About Moving To Panama/Boquete
Feb 11th, 2007 by Don Ray
I just spent a little time seeing what I have been missing since I have been gone. One of my stops was over to boqueteguide.com. Lee has started a series on his move to Boquete and I read what he has currently posted. To this point I concur with what I have read. My experiences were on my prior blog and someday I may revisit what I wrote, but Lee is organizing a well-structured presentation and if you want a current view of a recent move from the US to Panama, you should follow his posts. I will direct you to the first post and we can read it together.
Here are the topics he is planning on covering.
Introduction: Why Panama?
1. Getting from There to Here
2. Housing, building, buying etc
3. Utilities etc
4. Lawyers and Immigration
5. Food (a favorite topic)
6. Transportation
7. Communications
8. Medical, Dental etc
9. Weather
9. Employees (yes an issue)
10. Domestic Travel (Is Boquete big enough for you?)
11. Safety
12. Culture, culture shock and the Panamanian People
13. After the Mania
To get started, go here.

What about a recommendation for property managment services. Does anyone know of any in Boquete or David. I would like to rent out my newly built house which will be completed by June 2007. It is situated on the Brisas Boquetenas Community which if you are coming from David is just after you pass the Los Molinos Gated Community.
I have heard that some used their lawyer to act as property manager until they moved into their property. If the lawyer is not interested , he should know of someone he would recommend.
Thanks for that I did not think about my lawyer however she lives in Panama City but as you said she might know.
Don - I hope you don’t mind me asking questions at the moment as I have not made the move to Panama but building and I will be visiting again July I feel that I have no advice to give on the subject.
However I am so glad to come across this blog to read the interesting and informative articles, thank you very much.
Pearl, I tried to respond to your email addressand it did not go through. I am researching another item for you, but would like to discuss it off line.
Hi Don - Sorry I made a mistake in the email try again I have updated it.
I couldn’t get through with that email either.
Email me at donray@chiriquichatter.net and I will reply to your email.
We will be visiting Boqueta in April. We are planning on looking at retirement properties during that time. Any recomendations?
We will be staying at the Garden Inn for 6 nights. Any places of interest?

My only recommendation is to not get in a hurry. Believe what you know to be true and not what sales people tell you. If you let them know what you want to hear then that is what they will tell you. Panama has a lot to offer, it also has many things that you will only understand with time.
I AM PLANNING ON MOVING TO BOQUETE, CHIRIQUI, PANAMA TOWARDS THE END OF APRIL/BEG. OF MAY. I HAVE A 104 LB. DOG WHO MUST GO WITH ME, AS I PLAN ON MAKE THIS MOVE PERMANENT. MY GRANDMOTHER JUST BECAME A “PANAMANIAN” WITH HER PASSPORT AND VISA AND WHAT DO YOU CALL IT…THE P…something. ANY ADVICE?
I think the word you are looking for is pensionado.
Moving with a dog will require some planning. It is not a trivial or stressless process. I can talk to you about my experiences, but that would need to be via email.
Don:
Can you share with your readers who you used for an immigration lawyer to complete your VISA paperwork? Were you happy with him or her?
Hi Jeff.
I used a lawyer in Panama City and it was not something he normally did. At the time I did it (almost 5 years ago) I was his first I think. I no longer have his name or contact information. Sorry I can’t be of more help.
