Parque Recreativo Boringquito In Chiriquí
Feb 4th, 2007 by Don Ray
I always have to get out on a Sunday. It is good for my mind to see something different. With the Super Bowl coming on later in the afternoon, I made it up to Parque Recreativo Boringquito, which is just out side of Concepcíon in Chiriquí.
This little park was one I had not been to before. It is another place you would not find if someone didn’t tell you about it. There was no sign telling you where to exit the InterAmerican Highway.
Before you get to Concepcíon (driving from David), look to the right for this sign.

Take the road till it intersects another road and then go left. On this road (not the best road I have been on) look for this building on the right.

This building is intended to be the main entrance, but it wasn’t today. I followed the road and parked in the shade and headed toward the building that is the restaurant next to the Olympic pool. The entrance fee is $1.00 ad 5 cents for jubilados.
There is a lot of space incase you want to find a shade tree and just relax. I saw several couples that were doing just that.
Being lunch time, I headed to the restaurant. There is a large concrete area between two of the pools and the restaurant and Olympic pool. Here is a photo of that area and two of the pools at the other side. There is a long upper level walk way around this concrete area. I am taking photos from that walkway and you can see part of this walkway at the top right of the photo.

This is one of the pools.

This is a kiddy wading pool.

Here is the restaurant.

This is a photo of the Olympic sized pool, complete with marked lanes and stands for the swimmers. ADDED NOTE - the water in this pool didn’t look inviting to swim in and from a recent comment it must gotten worse. I saw many Panamanian’s in the water later, but it would not have been to my standard.

The is the restaurant menu.

I went with the meal options that were on the buffet.

I took some ropa vieja (stringed roast with vegetables), pure (mashed potatoes and plantain. I also got a fresh pineapple orange drink. This cost me about $2.50. I asked for a jubilado discount, but they only give the discount on the entrance and not the food. Still, my meal was very good and reasonably priced.

This is a photo from within the restaurant.

This is a paddle boat area.

I walked around the are. There was a nice stream that ran across the property.

This is facing the restaurant from the stream area.

Past the stream is another area that appears to be another restaurant area. It wasn’t open and this lake area was basically dry with the exception of a small stream running through it.

This is that stream as it leaves the manmade lake area.

Heading back to the car, I took a photo of these stones. They had several piles of these stone.

They will be turned into more of this stone wall that lines the first stream I took photos of.

This is a photo of the main swimming pool.

This is the wading pool.

Well that was my outing. Now to head back and get ready for the GAME.

Hi Don
While it has been 4 years, this looks like the same park I visited at the time we were staying in Concepcion except there have been many improvements.. If it is the same, if you stay on the street that is on the east side of the square until you come to the park on the left, it may be easier to find the first time. Great pics
Sharon
Do you mean from the square in Concepcíon?
Visited this park and pools yesterday.. what a disappointment. We paid $2 to get in for two of us. Very hot that day, a little overcast too. The olympic pool was a mess, cannot see the bottom, full of (vegitative) material? Same with the smaller pool. The kiddie pool looked OK from a distance, maybe the water is too shallow to look like pea soup?
Anyhow, my gut had told me to stay away as we decided NOT to even enter the pool area on 2 prior occasions, just did not feel right. Anyway, if you’re looking for clean public pools, forget about it. We turned around and walked out. I considered demanding my $2 back, but the lady was so nice at the place and …….I figured it was just another lesson in life: LISTEN to that little voice….
If anyone knows of a similar offering that features clean amenities, please respond..
Thanks,
K
KK - Thanks for leaving a comment. The Olympic pool’s water didn’t look good the day I was there also. There were people swimming in it. The kids pool looked ok. I didn’t look at the third pool, but it was full of people also.
Probably the best swimming pool in this area is at the Gran Nacional Hotel.
