Boy Would I Love Some Jimmy Dean’s Sausage
Feb 4th, 2007 by Don Ray
This morning I had some wonderful French toast for breakfast. The toast turned out so good that it was almost a perfect breakfast. But what would have really made it perfect would have been to have a couple Jimmy Dean’s sausage patties on the side of the plate. Here I can find about every other kind of meat that I like except for ground sausage.
Now I buy some good large Berard links of sausage and I enjoy them, but they are not the same. I want those patties with that spicy flavor. Fry them and put them in some fresh biscuits and nothing is better. I bet that is the reason that McDonald’s does so well here at breakfast time. Their sausage is pretty close. I bet if Berard in Volcan would learn how to make that type of sausage, they would capture a growing market of gringos coming to Panama.
I guess you can tell I have a craving today. It make me want to go to McDonald’s and order 50 sausage biscuits and tell them to forget the biscuits, cheese, and anything else they might come with it. I just want the sausage.

Yeah, had quite a few too many of those sssausage in a biscuit sold by Whataburger in Texas. Choloesterol smolestoral, they tastes soooooo good. Got my wasteline out where I can see it now! Surprised at my first breakfast here in Panama City when ordered corn torilla and got a polenta patty….. not my favorite, but always loving learning about different cultures… Looked in the Machaeta supermarket and didn’t see any mexican-style tortillas there…. Are the soft Mexico type sold in David or Boquette?
Yes, you can buy both flour and corn tortillas here in Panama. However, I like some white corn tortillas that I get in Costa Rica. They are the best to me. They remind me of the tortillas that Ojedas restaurant in Dallas used.
Covered with a little butter and salt — UMMMMMMM!
Hi Don, just to let you know that McDonald’s (in David as well as in Panama City) sells the sausage pattie alone. So, go ahead and just order the patties.
Interesting Lilia. Maybe I can just go in a buy a box.
Don, we make our own sausage patties. For each half pound of ground pork (we buy ours at Pricemart), work in 1 Tbsp. minced red onion, 1 1/2 tsp.minced garlic, 1/2 tsp. dried thyme, 1/4 tsp. ground dried sage, 1/4 tsp. cayenne, 1/4 tsp. black pepper, and 1/8 tsp. salt. Make into four patties. They can be frozen until needed. They are a lot lower in cholesterol and fat than Jimmy Dean’s so I cook them in a little olive oil. The flavor is right though. We make egg, cheese and sausage on English muffins (Egg McMuffins). I hope this might cure the craving.
VonDell thanks for the comment. I will try your recipe. I had bought some of the ground pork at PriceSmart, but my attempt failed.
Just to let you know that I fixed Dad pancakes and Jimmy Dean Sausage for supper tonight. He ate three pieces I think you could probably do better than that. Just to let you know the Jimmy Dean thing is in the genes like uncle like nephew. Jan.
Now that was cruel. I think you are right though, it is in the genes, and if I were to eat enough it would be in the jeans too.
