Parque Cervantes January 2007 Update
Jan 24th, 2007 by Don Ray
This morning I drove down town to update the status on Parque Cervantes. You may remember on my last post in December, I was told that the target was the end of January. The new target is March 19th to be ready for El Dia de San José and the David Fair. Good Luck. A lot of work has been done, but there is still a lot to do.
The first photo shows that the central fountain has had a lot of work and really accents the park.
Here are a few more photos to compare with the ones in December..

Each time I go I get to meet someone new. Today I meet José Darío Santamaria. His card is below. He is one of many local businessmen that are involved as interested citizens in the construction of the park and the improvement of all of downtown David. He told me today that they had to remove several of the older trees because of their poor health and they have brought in several olive trees from Panama City.
He was also very tuned in to the security that is planned for the park. There will be full time 24/7 security on premises. Improved lighting was one of the key improvements for the park. Not only that but there will be security cameras on the park all the time. They really intend this to be a real drawing card for the city.
I asked him if they were planning on doing anything about the vagrants that basically live in front of the church across the street. Most of the time when you walk past the church, you will see them asleep on the steps. There is usually a noticeable smell of urine because they have been using the steps as their latrine. He assured me that this has been a topic of conversation and that the city was committed to cleaning up this eyesore as well.
I am looking forward to seeing the park open. I hope the David Fair has some competition for some of the visitors to David.
Below is the business card of José.

Don Ray, thanks for this update. It looks like there will be a lot of seating to let me sit and watch Ellen wander through the stores around the block.
You should be well taken care of.
I’m glad to see that the project is moving along. I have seen for myself in Costa Rica many half completed bridges and roads NEVER finished because of corruption!
This will be completed. They only have about 10 or so fellows doing the work and I am really amazed that they have done what they have done.
I hope they hit their new target date.
