Last Day of 2006

We have reached the end of another year. It seems like each successive year passes just a little faster than the previous. I have enjoyed taking you along with me on my daily journeys and plan on continuing doing the same in 2007.

The end of the year is always a time of reflection. What should I have done that I didn’t? What did I do that I wish I hadn’t? Did I make the best use of my time? Is the world a better place because I was here?

It is usually some of these sort of questions that provoke New Year’s resolutions. Well for 2007, I think I will just keep mine simple and in the words of James Dean, I will dream as if I will live forever and I will live as if I will die today.

Here is wishing you and yours the best New Year you have ever had.

Regards,

Don Ray

Addendum: In case you don’t normally read the comments, I recommend you make an exception and read Tom’s comment and play the video he included. Music to end one year and begin another.

  1. Don Ray,

Thanks for the posts, inspiration, questions, etc. It’s been a good year; let’s hope for an even better one in 2007!

  2. Hi Don:

I saw your post this morning on retire n panama group and that reminded me that it’s been a while since I checked your web log. Hope you have a good New Year and get your book finished. I agree that the holidays mean most because of family. I will try to stop by more frequently this next year.

  3. Marie – thank you for the good wishes. I wish the same for you.

Tom – thank you for such a beautiful video. It took me a while to figure out why the link was there and when I found the video, I decided to just include it and I removed the link to make easier for others to enjoy.

Listening to this song can easily bring a tear to this old man’s eye. I am including a second video by the same artist which has photos of him and also the words to the song. Without a doubt this is the best rendition of “Somewhere over the rainbow” I have ever heard. It is amazing what kind of music can come from four strings and a big loving heart.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

  4. Don Ray:

I’m glad you made it available to other people; I sent that blog to other people and they couldn’t find “The Rainbow.”

Israel’s voice is quite extraordinary, and as you say, it is a good way to welcome in the New Year.

  5. I have played it over and over. Now I just need to get Pandora to add it to their music. Sounds like that goes on the “to do” list for 2007.

  6. Thanks for all your visits in 2006. This new year brings some distress with Patty’s breast cancer and the treatments she will have to go through, but we will make it again just like we did ten years ago. We hope and pray this new year will deliver some health and happiness to all of you and your families.

  7. I have enjoyed the visits and know that all will come out ok for Patty. Give her my best. I hope that 2007 will be a great year and you and she can put this concern behind you.

  9. Hey we enjoyed coming along for the ride!

BTW we’re back in Panama Jan 6th to 20th, however we are not planning to come by your area at all, we’ll be staying around the Altos del Maria and El Valle area.

  10. Sylvain – Enjoy your brief stay in January. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.

Sieg – Thanks for the comment. Look forward to seeing you on your next visit.

  11. Happy New Year to you and yours also Don Ray! Thank you for all the work you put into this website! I very much enjoy learning about the day to day happenings in Chiriqui and am getting very excited about our upcoming trip the end of January. It will be my mom’s first trip and my second. We are hoping to find a humble casa and get my mom’s visa in the works! Hope we are able to meet you!

  12. Beth and Beth’s Mom (aka Lynda M)

Thanks to you both for your nice comments. I will be around at the end of January, so we will probably bump into each other somewhere.

I hope you both enjoy your time here.
