ACS - Just Cause Announcement
Dec 19th, 2006 by Don Ray
I guess this went out on the 7th, but it just hit my email.
Date: 07 December 2006
Subject: Anniversary of Operation Just Cause
December 20 marks the 17th anniversary of the beginning of Operation Just Cause.
In past years, the anniversary has been marked by demonstrations, marches and related activities. While the Embassy has no specific information regarding planned demonstrations, U.S. citizens in Panama are urged to exercise extra caution on this date. U.S. citizens should monitor the media, avoid any reported demonstration activity, and consider postponing unnecessary trips into the downtown area of Panama City until after December 20.
The US Embassy reminds American Citizens in Panama to exercise good personal security. When driving around the city of Panama, keep windows closed, doors locked, and leave an opening in front of your vehicle in order to pull away if necessary. Always carry your cell phone (if applicable).
Lock all doors, windows, gates, and automobile doors at your residence. Periodically check your alarm system (if applicable). Ensure that domestic help and children know not to allow anyone into the residence without prior consent from an adult member of the household. Have important numbers, such as the local police and fire departments, readily available or memorized.
For the latest security information, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department’s Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov/ where the current Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, Travel Warnings and Public Announcements can be found. Up to date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the United States, or, for callers outside the United States and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays). American citizens traveling or residing overseas are encouraged to register with the appropriate U.S. Embassy or Consulate on the State Department’s travel registration website at https://travelregistration.state.gov/
For updated information on the security situation in Panama, please contact the American Citizens Services Unit of the U.S. Embassy at 207-7030. The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy is located in The Clayton Building (formerly Fort Clayton Building 520) in the Clayton section of Panama. The Consular Section fax is 207-7278. The Embassy web site is http://usembassy.state.gov/panama and e-mails should be addressed to Panama-ACS@state.gov.

Hi DonRay:
A woman wanting to go from PC to SJ by bus with her 9 year old son wants to know if there are buses from David to San Jose, CR. If you have some information, I’ll pass it on to her.
There are buses that go from David to San Jose. I don’t know anything other than that.
I also read a translated espanol web page from Panama that Noriega has become a Catholic “MONK” in prison and is going to be released in a couple of years.
¡Hi Don Ray, Tom, Snake: et al!
A Tracopa (advt.) bus leaves from the ‘Parada de Buses’ (David bus terminal) in David for San José. The trip takes from 11 to 12 hours and I have made that trip many times. Call Tracopa for their schedule or go by their office at the bus terminal for more information.
