Firewall Understanding
Dec 5th, 2006 by Don Ray
Today, I installed Kerio Firewall for a trial. I had tried it a couple of years ago and was impressed and decided to try it again.
If you are not using a firewall, you should be. However my post is related to an effect of the firewall on the Chiriquí Chatter photo album. When I brought up the photo album the thumbnails did not display.
I have had a couple people contact me in the past and say they were not seeing any of the thumbnails. If you are one of those people then take a look at your firewall settings.
I had to list www.chiriquichatter.net as an accepted website because of the way it filtered web information.

Don,
Let me know how you testing goes. At home, I am using a Linksys Router http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1130279435381&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper and a ZoneLabs software called ZoneAlarm professional edition. Each is very good on it’s own and together provide very good security.

I have not used Zone Alarm Pro. I have used the ZoneAlarm free version. I really like the Kerio firewall. It gives a lot of information that I do not get from the free ZoneAlarm or from the firewall built in my motherboard. For the $20 price, it looks like a good value.
I plan on staying a little flexible on all security software until I decide what I plan on doing with Vista.
I looked at the thumbnails and the Kerio product looks very good. Please keep me informed. What are your initial thoughts on Vista?
My thoughts are that I really don’t need it. If I get it, it would probably just be to play with it, but I am really considering moving to an Apple.
Apple is a superb product. A friend of mine who is very technically savvy switched a year ago and will not go back.
