Beware When Installing Unknown Software
Nov 19th, 2006 by Don Ray
Another website that I occasionally read was promoting a tool Bar by Alexa which gives a measurement of a website’s reach. The first problem is that it is only available it you are using IE. None the less, I decided to try it. As soon as I did, two separate MalWare products I have installed sounded a warning to immediately do a complete system scan.
Ad-Aware found 82 items that had been installed in my system by this download. There is no tool bar that is worth putting that much garbage on your system.
My recommendation is if you want to use the Alexa Site information, do it via the site and do not install the tool bar.

I only download software from one site ONLY: CNET.com and then ONLY after reading at least 10 “user opinions” from the forum. Never had a problem!
Most of the software I have used has come from PC World Website. Never a problem. I am familiar with the Alexa site, so I didn’t worry about it.
Is this the same software that the other “Don” from Panama Guide did an article on?
Yep
