Panama Healthcare Alert
Oct 3rd, 2006 by Don Ray
I heard this on the local TV news this morning. While this is an alert it should be taken seriously until it is better understood. According to Don Winger’s post on his website, it thought to be localized to Panama City and and the western part of Panama province (Chorrera), but with this being a small country you should be aware. There have been at least 6 known deaths as a result of this illness.
Don Winger posted the following on the Yahoo groups:
Notice:
* This morning there are reports of an outbreak of an unidentified disease that has killed six people in Panama.
* The disease starts with severe diarrhea and headache, followed by eventual renal failure, paralysis of the face and extremities, and in some cases death.
* There have been at least 22 cases identified and several people who have been infected have recovered.
* This is a breaking story and it’s all over the news right now.
* I will be learning more and will publish details later.
* But for now, if you have symptoms of severe diarrhea, go to the hospital immediately.
* Do not wait, and do nor try to self-medicate.
* Apparently those who have survived and recovered are those who have received professional medical attention in a timely manner.
Don lives in Panama City and I am sure he will stay on top of the latest related to this subject in his Panama Guide.
