Searching for A New Look

Don’t be surprised for the theme to be changing for no apparent reason for a few days. I am searching for a new look and at the same time updating to a theme that supports the new functionality that WordPress included in its last release. Widgets is the new buzzword and it allows a lot more flexibility in making changes. My old theme, which has served me well for over a year, did not support widgets and I don’t think I want to spend the time to upgrade it.

I did look up the past author to see if there was a new version, but it hasn’t been updated. As you view Chiriquí Chatter over this transition period, feel free to leave a comment on what you think of the theme. Tell me how you like the look and feel and if you notice any functionality that doesn’t work. I would also be interested in how fast you think it loads. Check back often or you may miss your favorite theme.

Also when you leave a comment, please describe the theme’s look, as it will be changing at random, until I decide on the look I like. I want it to be clean, easy to read, and with a modicum of elegance. If you don’t leave an indication of the theme’s design, it may not be the current theme when I read the comment.

Ah, a change is in the winds.

  1. when I click on a title I now get a error message or the page loads with errors
( Done, but with errors on page )
On my RSS reader I now get a popup which reads:

(An error has occurred in the script on this page)
    Line: 282
    Char: 24
    Error: ‘Delicious’ is undefined
    Code: 0

This error is on all pages, of course with different Line numbers

An error has occurred in the script on this page)
    Line: 243
    Char: 24
    Error: ‘Delicious’ is undefined
    Code: 0

Otherwise I think the layout is looking good or maybe even better looking forward to the final version

  2. Ellen, The Better Half, noticed that the white background is a little harder on the old eyes. Other than that the changes keep adding interest. Thanks.

  3. Don Ray, I’m on the white background, with the tree and clouds in the header. I like it a lot. Very clean. Much more contemporary than the previous one.

  4. I like the leaf theme, too. This would be nice for fall.

Also, this might be better suited for your readers who aren’t as familiar with blogs. I mean, I really liked the “below the fold” elements under the comments of the previous theme. But, that might be confusing to some folks. I don’t know if I’m stating this very clearly. I hope you know what I mean.

  5. Don Ray,

I like the Gemini-based template much more than the all-white one. For some reason, a lot of white drives my video system nuts and I get wavy lines at the bottom of the screen. Thanks for changing.

  6. Well, be patient. I am still in the experimental mode and have several more to play with before I settle down on one.

I like these colors the best, but I prefered many of the other’s features.

Thanks for the input and I will file it away in my memory banks.

  7. Hi Don:

I’ve been all over you blog and looking at the different options you are considering for your new theme.

The one that struck me for its bright colors and layout it Dark Maple. I haven’t found anything wrong yet.

Great work Don. I know you were a great Chef and Poet among other things, but had no idea you were also a web designer “aficionado”.

  8. Hi Omar. Thanks for checking in. A web designer I am not, but I do do research and this falles in that catagory. As I reply I am on the Dark Fire, and I can tell I don’t like the way it works for me. I am having a hard tome reading what I am writing on the black background. I don’t know it this one will make it through the day.
