Mar del Sur in David Vs. Delicias del Perú in Boquete
Since today is Sunday and my day to eat out, I decided to try Mar del Sur for the first time in a long time. With the thoughts of Delicias del Perú fresh on my mind I felt like this would be a way for me to compare the two.
Mar del Sur has been in David as I have been in Panama, This is the second location for Mar del Sur. It is much easier to find than the first location was and is much nicer inside. To get there, if you are on the InterAmerican highway heading toward Costa Rica in David, turn left at the corner of Kentucky Fried Chicken. Down the road a ways, you will see this sign.

Here is the restaurant from the outside.

I only took one photo inside, but it will give you an idea. It has a Peruvian décor as you would expect.

As I looked at the menu, I think the prices may be marginally higher than Delicias del Perú. I ordered something similar but different. The offered the same meal that I had last week for 50 cents more. Today I had a corvine in a shrimp and clam sauce. It was very tasty. I ordered a slice of lemon pie for dessert.

If you are in David and want to give them a try, now you know how to find them.
I know you are wondering how they compared in my evaluation. Well, I guess I have to say in all regards, Delicias del Perú came out on top. The restaurant is newer, nicer looking, better view, food presentation is better and it won the taste test as well. Maybe I need to give it 6 more months and try the comparison again.

Your meal looked very nice – were you there for lunch or dinner? We’ve tried to dine there several times, but found their hours of operation were very flexible – meaning they were never open when we were hungry! Looks like we’ll have to try again.
They had hours posted for Monday through Sunday for both lunch and dinner, if I remember correct. They used to only be open for the evening meal. I was there this time a little after noon on Sunday.
[...] I also learned that if you eat at the Machu Picchu Peruvian restaurant, they include the tip on your bill without identifying that it is there. Besides being deceptive, I think it is illegal. I would think that many visitors from the US might not notice it and leave another tip. I have therefore removed it off my “to try” restaurant list. The next time I go to Mar Del Sur in David, I will have to watch and see if they also are including the tip. If they are, they will no longer be on my restaurant list. [...]
