Back In David
Aug 13th, 2006 by Don Ray
As you can see, I am back in David. I took a red eye flight back. I had to get up at 4:30 AM and catch a taxi by 5:00Am to be at the airport by 5:30 AM for check in. Whew!
On Sundays there are only two flights to David and you always run the risk of having rain for the afternoon flight. Depending on how severe the rain can be, I never like to take the risk. I always try to take the morning flights to or from David for this reason.
On this morning’s flight there were only 8 other passengers. Maybe that is why the flight only took 48 minutes.
Anyway, I am glad to be back and have a computer tied to the Internet again.
Oh, before I forget. When I arrived in Panama City, I took a taxi to the residence where I was staying. I noticed that the taxi driver was very interested in engaging in conversation (I though to show off his broken English). When I got to the apartment building and asked how much, the taxi driver said $5.00. Now I was sure that was too much, but I didn’t want to argue.
When I asked the locals what was normal, I should have paid $2.75. I should have known better. The moral is to know what the correct fare is. If you are a gringo a lot of taxi drivers will take advantage of you. It is better just to get out of the taxi and not ask – just give them the correct fare amount. Within the City, it should never be over $3.00. Much of the times I only paid $1.25.

Welcome home!
Glad to hear you had a good experience once again at Manolo’s - it did look good! Sorry about your Taxi problems - we learned the hard way about asking up front about fares in the City…
You missed the fireworks last nite! ELEKTRA - the store occupying the former BAMVOL building - opened with great fanfare. Big street party, live music and yes - real fireworks! I’m sure you’ll be checking it out soon.
See you soon. Linda
Thanks for letting me know about ELECTRA. I know better about the taxi’s, I just didn’t do what I knew I should.
