David Hotel Puerta Del Sol
Jun 26th, 2006 by Don Ray
Here is Hotel Puerta Del Sol. (507) 774-8422 puertadelsol@cwpanama.net

NOTE: Verify all rates prior to check in. The rates quoted below are a best effort by me to get rates.
The prices here are $29.70 for a queen bed, $35.20 for 2 beds, and $40.80 with three beds. The internet is $1/30 minutes.
This is the lobby to Puerta Del Sol. By the way, this hotel has an excellent restaurant and the noon buffet is great.

For other David hotels go here.

Hi Don Ray,
Last comment of the day. The Puerta del Sol is where I book rooms for visitors to David.
Again, the rooms are very clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. I have noted that there is usually one person on the desk who speaks English.
Puerta del Sol has an elevator, which is important for some of our older visitors. The food in the restaurant is good - we have breakfast there every Sunday - and have heard that the Sunday Brunch is excellent.
Linda
Your comments are always welcome.
Their noon buffet is good too, not just the Sunday buffet.
Don Ray:
I stayed at the Puerta Del Sol in March 2006 Found the room extremely Clean, good Food at the Restaurant, don’t speak Spainish to well so I found it helpful that The Bell Hops and most of the Front Desk Girls Spoke very good English, were Very Friendly, & Helpful. I was charged $ 22.00 per night for a Single, which I felt was a real bargain. The Floors were Marble as well as the Shower Walls. There was dish T.V. With a fair amount of English Channesl Including Free Porn after 11 P.M. ” What a Country! ” There is a good internet cafe across the street with vidio rentals, and 25 Cents for 1/2 Hour on high speed Internet Acccess. Met alot of English Speaking People staying in the restaurant in various stages of purchasing Property. Looks like the secret is out . I found direct Cab Rides to Boquette for $ 15.00 for those with more time the bus Fare to Boquette was about $ 1.50. Looking forward to coming back to David in the not to distant future. Lots of good shopping within walking distance of the Hotel. They Close the Bar A Little Early but over all I found this Hotel Very Nice.
Bob S.
Thanks for the comment.
I have used Planet Internet which I think is the internet cafe you were talking about. I always has a friendly smile at the checkout counter.
Can anyone supply a phone number or location for this hotel?
I have added all phone numbers to the individual hotel posts as well as the index list of hotels. If you find one I missed, let me know.
Your work is so much appreciated by us newbies to the area. John
Thanks for the comment. I am glad that others are enjoying my efforts.
I am looking for the correct number for this hotel….does anyone have it?
Puerta del Sol
Gracias
Laurel
Laurel. You are correct, the number is bad. I looked Puerto del Sol up in the phone book and gor another number and it is also bad. I will try to get by the hotel, but it will take me some time. In the mean time I will try to see if I can find another number and I will test it. I took all the numbers as correct. I will go back and call each one and verify they work and if they are bad I will put them down as a problem to be fixed. Sorry to put out bad info, but this is Panama and when you use Panama resources it is sometimes garbage in garbage out.
As an update, I just found a good number and called the hotel. Iput it in the post, so the post is also correct now. 774-8422

Thanks for dropping in Robin, but if you think you met me in 2002 in this hotel, it must have been some one different. If you met me in 2002, it would have to have been in Boquete.

Lynton - Thanks for leaving a comment.
Just for clarification, I am not associated with any of these hotels. I saw that the David Hotels were not well displayed on the Internet and decided to add entries of the hotels in my blog. If you want to write the hotel, their email address was listed in the post next to their phone number.
If these hotel entries were of help I am satisfied.
Hi Don,
How are you?
My wife and I will visit David on March-05-2007 and would like to stay at this Hotel Puerta Del Sol, however because we will drive to David from Panama city by a rental car, therefore we would like to know if this hotel has a secure parking space for the rental? Your advice is greatly appreciate.
Best regards,
Cuong
The hotel has secure parking to the side so it should be fine there.
Good morning Don,
Thank you for your reply.
De nada.
hi don
I am going to Panama the last week of April hopefully to purchase property BUT believe it or not I was interested in a piece of beachfront in Las Lajas and I’m to contact a man by the name of Mr. Danny to show. me the property. Can this be the Mr. Danny mentioned in buyer beware? I’ve been told his real name is Denis Moran and I also have a phone number for him.I hear we are arriving at the start of the rainy season..does it rain every day and is it a heavy rainfall ..how long does the rainy season last? Should I be bringing any special clothing?
thanks Stuart
Hi Stuart. I can’t answer the question about Danny. It would have been better if you had raised that on that post because the person who wrote the email might have responded. I will try to find her email address and forward her your comment. I will try to cross post your comment on the other area as well.
In the rainy season it will rain most days. Usually the morning is nice and the rains come in the afternoon. Some rains are nice and gentle and some rain comes down by the buckets full.
This hotel also has free underground parking (with cameras, if I recall correctly.)
That is news to me. I have seen parking to the side, but I have never heard that it had underground parking. I can’t even imagine where the entrance would be.
Hi, I want to know sinse the Hotel is open to public, ¿the year?
thanks
I am not sure I understand your question.
Don,
I am sure I have driven by here, but do you have an address?
Doug
It is about a block from the downtown park on the one way street heading toward the airport.
Good morning, I’m going to David to get married and I’m looking for a nice Hotel in David where I could have a few unforgettable nights with my husband. I would like to know how are your bedrooms and restrooms sinces there is no pictures of the rooms. thanks
please show me some more pictures
Sorry Amanda, I included all the photos I have of this hotel. Contact the hotel for other information. I do not represent the hotel.
how far is this hotel from the venue of the international fair of david
Nothing is all that far in David, but it is too far to walk, unless you are feeling pretty frisky. It will be about a $1.50 to $2.00 taxi ride.
Just wanted to say what a great site this is. My husband and I just returned from a 3 day stay at Puerta del Sol (November 2007). After reading the many entries on this site, we decided to give the hotel a try, and we weren’t disappointed. Our rate was approx. $35.00 per night for a room with a double bed and a twin bed (when we arrived on Saturday without a reservation, they didn’t have any rooms available with queen beds). The restaurant serves delicious food. My husband thought the two beef dishes he had there were excellent. The rooms are clean and quiet, but, as someone else mentioned, bring your own shampoo, wash cloths, and hair dryer if you want them; they’re not provided. There are no safe deposit boxes in the rooms, but the hotel brochure mentions that they do have secure boxes for use by its guests. The staff were friendly and most of them do speak some English. We’ll definitely stay at Puerta del Sol again if we have to make a trip to David. Thanks for the many comments.
Hi Janice. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.
Thanks for this update. I’m browsing for a hotel for this Jan. trip to David. We’ve stayed in the Iberia in the past. Very nice folks. And yes, the cubano is muy yummy. But no elevator, and Don has multiple back problems like ya wouldn’t believe, causing much much pain, and neccessary daily medication for same. And their rooms are rather small.
He’s also become an incredibly light sleeper. You should see his video with audio from our room at the Hotel Las Vegas Suites room in Panama City, last stay. Right at the intersection, catty corner from Veneto. Although it has many amenities, letting Don sleep was not one of them. So a quiet room, and/or earplugs seems the only solution to him getting some zzzz’s. Me, I lived in Manhattan for two years in my youth. Noise? What noise.
So, back to David and del So, besides the great advantage of an elevator, is the hotel in a quieter area, i.e. not at an intense intersection, or wildly celebratory nightlife area? That would make it perfecto.
Much appreciated.
The hotel is about a block away from Parque Cervantes. Can’t speak to the quietness. I would think it is as quiet as the others. Good luck.
Thank you. Sounds good.
Best, Charlotte
[...] presentation was held in Hotel Puerta del Sol in its private meeting room. I would guess there were about 49 Panamanians and one gringo. Lucy [...]
An update on hotels. We stayed at Puerto del sol. Made the reservation online. Had a bit of a problem making the reservation in English, but once I switched to my limited spanish, no problema. The folks there are delightful. The rooms are ample. We checked in two different times, the second time with no firm leave date. The ladies at the desk said no problem, the rooms are yours as long as you want them.
For us, the elevator was all important. The parking is underground, around the corner from the main entrance. The hotel has a lobby computer, $1 for 45 minutes. Actually they have two, but one wasn’t working the two weeks we were there.
I didn’t care for the restaurant, but others seem to like it. Plenty of other choices close by for eating. One great deal for lunch is the casino at the Gran Nacional (if you stay away from the slots!). Three dollars got us soup or chicken wings, a big lunch, and a dessert, ice cream or flan. What a deal.
And our favorite breakfast was at El Ejecutive (a drive past the central park, past the stadium, one more street over, Don will have to tell us the name of street). Great coffee, very nice ladies, great breakfast, and three adults ate well for six dollars and a tip. The best thing is they have parking for six or seven cars. Just don’t land there while the cabbies are on their breakfast break. The place fills up!
Hi Mary. Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Sorry, but I don’t know the Ejecutivo. Downtown the Multi cafe 1 and 2 are both reasonable and good food for breakfasts.
Don: not sure if can answer this fast.I live in C.R. taking bus tomorrow the 2nd to David,,Am interested in Hotel puerta del sol,,,,Do they have Air Cond.? thank you in advance, Roy
Hi Roy. All hotels that are listed here have AC.
Hi my name Rafael I’m a student of Internactional Tourism from Universidad Interamericana in Panama city, this hotel exceed my expectations so clean; is a big hotel, good facilities, as you were in the capital, good attention, i’m making a report of this hotel to qualify the level of quality that it has and is getting a high score…IM PROUD OF COUNTRY, with all the comments that all of you wrote here…but we should improve a lot of our service culture learn more languages, and keep our traditions…

Hi Rafael,
Thanks for dropping in and leaving a comment.
Hi Don Ray
Thanks for your informative and helpful blog which I found really useful during my research into retirement in Panama. I’m coming to Panama City towards the end of November, and intend to stay for five months (and who knows maybe longer!) to visit the different areas of the country to see where I would most prefer to settle. At the moment, Boquete seems to be near the top of my list, although my mind is being kept firmly open pending my visit.
I have sent a couple of emails to the Hotel Puerta Del Sol to see if they can offer me a single room for two weeks commencing on 28 November, but have not received a reply. Do you think this is most likely due to a problem with their/my email messaging or are they perhaps reluctant to respond to an email written only in English? (I am about to start on Spanish lessons, so would not be able to have any telephone conversation with the hotel unless it was in my native Welsh language, or in English!!
What would you advise - I’m really keen on this hotel, as the price seems favourable and I can’t seem to find anything comparable on the web.
Also, what would you advise re. renting a property in Panama, preferably the Boquete region, for say 4 months - am I better off waiting till I arrive, and see what I can find in local newspapers’ classifieds’ sections, or should I try and use agents’ web sites. Those that I have found so far seem to offer only expensive rental options!
Any help that you can find time to give would be gratefully received,
many thanks,
Gareth
Hi Gareth,
I just sent them an email to verify that the address is working. The hotel should have people that can communicate in English, so via phone or email should be no problem.
Verify the prices on all hotels. It has been a couple of years since I made the posts on the Hotels.
Most Internet ads will have an inflated price. However, rentals are most likely in small quantity. It is usually better to be here and plan on looking for a week or two to find something. Any organization that caters to gringos will charge more than if you can talk to the owner of the rental. I really am out of touch with what might be available in Boquete.
Dear Don,
Many thanks for your prompt response - I’ll be taking your advice and will research the rental market when I arrive in Panama, when I hope that I will have some basic command of Spanish to ease the communication with property owners.
Thanks again,
Gareth
Just so you know, they haven’t responded to my email either, but since it wasn’t returned, I have to assume it is a good address.
Thanks Don - maybe its holiday time for the hotel office! No matter, I’ll make my reservation by phone a little nearer the time of my arrival.
