The Czechs Kick US Butt
Jun 12th, 2006 by Don Ray
Talk about getting your butt kicked. The US just was no match for the Czechs today losing 3-0 in the USA’s first game of the World Cup. As far as I am concerned, the US was never in the game.
The Czechs produce a car that I like called the Skoda. I had never seen it in the US, but it reminded me of a car I had rented in Spain. I think it is a pretty good car. I know several people have told me that Skoda doesn’t build a good car, but I think their experience was on models that were before its association with Volkswagen.
I guess the only thing I am not convinced of it the company that supports it in panama which is TESA.I considered buying a Skoda Fabia. It is a smaller car and with the diesel engine it got over 45 miles to a gallon. If I ever get to the point where I think that a 4×4 isn’t required, I may consider Skoda again.
Who knows? After kicking the USA’s butt in soccer, maybe it is ready to take on the USA in the car market as well. Everyone else seems to be doing ok in that arena.

Was in the UK for the first time in 30 years recently.
My brother drives a Skoda Octavia.
They come in a variety of engine configurations, he has the diesel.
Vey impressive and about $4,000.00 cheaper than a Volkswagen.
Unfortunately it is not available in Canada either.
The one thing I noticed was the high percentage of diesel vehicles.
With the gas mileage I cannot understand why there are so few in North America, perhaps it is the same in Panama.
The Octavia is a very nice car. There are more options in Panama Citythan there are in David. I think the Diesels seel pretty good in Panama.
Don, I am not much of a soccer fan but I did spend a couple of weeks last summer in a Skoda sedan (I don’t know the model.) that was pretty impressive. It was powered well and comfortable on the sometime not well surfaced Polish roads. I was well impressed but you know how easily that takes place. Have a good weekend. Dick
I have goten into soccer. I played it back when I was about 30 so I could learn it and coach it.
I also like the Skoda. I hope to drive it on some Polish roads some day.
