Boquete Earthquake Study Update
May 15th, 2006 by Don Ray
I decided to drive to Boquete yesterday and see if I could get some current information about the studies that have been being made relative to the continuing seismic activity. I talked with Frank Glavas, who runs the Pension Marilos, and is a long time resident in Boquete. He usually knows the latest news in and around Boquete.

He said the scientists had completed their current study and what is happening is normal. The plates are shifting and it indicates no new activity in the Baru.
I know that is good news to all that live in the Boquete area. He said this is similar to activity that happened around 1996 and back in the 70’s. He said he expected the activity to subside in less than 30 days. I believe that a reporter on the TV this morning said less than two weeks.
At any rate, I know everyone will be glad to have the shake rattle and roll ended. Frank also said when the plates shift in David, the quakes are usually stronger. I know I felt one last year that really gave me a start.
On my drive up to Boquete, I noticed a new sign at the “Y” going to Potrerillos and Boquete. “!No AL T.L.C. CON LOS GRINGOS” This is a statement that the proposed Trade Agreement is not supported here. Ha, and you thought it meant no tender loving care with Gringos”.
