Since I had been right around the corner from Viejas Crisol, I decided to take a few photos in the Museum (La Casona). If you didn’t know that this museum was here, you would miss it. Luckily you had me out and about to let you know it was here.
This is an interesting place to give a visit, if you want to learn something about the history of David. The proprietor and historian that you will meet when you enter is Dr. Mario Jose Molina Castilla.
This is more than a museum because it also has antiques for sale. So whether it is to gain knowledge or to buy some Antigüedades, then you are going to have a good time. Here is Mario holding a book on David’s history that he authored. If you want to know what was and what it has become, he is the guy to ask.

The book is available for purchase and is a great history book containing many photos of the past in David. Shoot, it will even help you learn Spanish since there is no English translation.

Here is a small taste of what’s in the museum.

This is the typical Panamanian dress and you will see it in the folkloric dances.

This is a new mural depicting the celebration following Panama’s Independence from Spain.

Do you remember the old telephone switchboards. I remember one similar to this in Douglas Oklahoma. “Hello Central – are you there?”

There are more photos from the museum in the Chiriqui Chatter Photo Album.
One moment I thought, you are playing and write one word in finnish – museo is the finnish word also and means the museum as like in spanish. Now I have learned this – interesting.
There is no charge for the Spanish lessons. They are free. But you get what you pay for.
While the word may be spelled the same in finnish, I wonder if it sounds different.
This is a great website! I’m originally from Panama and looking for members of my Jurado family who came from David. Someone mentioned to me that this museum had information about the Jurados. Is there a way for me to contact Mario Jose Molina directly? I’d love to get a copy of his book, but it’s not available here in the U.S. Thanks.
Hi Ada,
I am not in David at the present. If you will send me an email around the 15th of January, I will try to get some contact information for you.

Wow, sacha, those are great views. The Singer in the other room looks like the one my bride learned to sew with. I like the views of the fountain too, it’s the same one as the masthead here by Don Ray. Very well done.
