Boquete Is A Changin
Mar 5th, 2006 by Don Ray
It has obviously been a while since I have been in Boquete. I was having Mole withdrawal and had to go to my favorite restaurant in Boquete (Taqueria Antojitos Mexicanos). The menu is always a tough decision, but once again I went with the Mole. I think that is probably the tastiest thing in all of Boquete. In case you don’t remember the restaurant, you can read about it here and here.
After that great meal (Yes, I splurged and had the flan also), I took a little stroll around the area to see what had changed and also see if I could burn off some of the calories.
To these old eyes, there is a lot that has changed and there appears to be more changes on the way.
This building has had a major facelift and now houses Mailboxes Etc. and DHL.

On another street I noticed that Airbox Express has put in an office. Must be a lot of gringo mail going up Boquete way.
Here is more of the building’s facelift. The one next to it looks like it could use a little of the same.

I see that a new video club has gone in next to the farmacia.

El Sabroson looks the same to me. It probably still has the cheapest breakfast in town.

What is going on next door? Must be something to require that major an update?

The Baru Deli is new to me. I peeked inside and it has an attractive layout, lots of goodies to take home, and has a restaurant on the side.

The lot across from Fletes Chavale appears to be ready for something as well.

Coming up the back street, I see that the barbershop is still there. ($2.00 a haircut when I was there) The artisan shop is new to me.

El Rancho had come just before I left. It has an Argentinean orientation. It was variable quality when I tried it. Sometimes good, sometimes not so good. Don’t ever eat the pizza.

Across the street was El Hibiscus (French Cuisine). I also give it mixed reviews. Normally it was pretty good, but quality sometimes suffered when it was really busy. Next door they have put in a perfumería. I smelled pretty good today, so I didn’t stop in

Across from the Bistro it looks like more construction is planned.

Today at the Bistro Mickey, Sharon (Squirt), and a third were performing. I understand you can catch them there on Sundays from 3pm to 6pm. I was lucky to be there at the right time. That is Squirt in the middle looking coy, and Mickey on the right. Sorry, but I don’t know the third musician. If you stop in, tell Mickey you want to hear the old Guy Clark song L.A. Freeway.

After all that exercise, I decided to stop at the Café Katawa at the Cefati. I recommend the coffee frappe.

Stepped out back of Café Katawa and took these two photos. The first is looking toward the city of Boquete.

The second is directly behind the Cefati.

What a day! Great meal! Great weather! Great to be alive!!!!!!!

wow nice pics
Thanks.
