I think I may re-think my approach and consider putting Linux on my older PC and XP on the new one. It looks like it is going to take too much effort to get a stable Linux sustem on the new motherboard and I think the old PC may work better.

I had everything working, but it was still a little unstable. I think I liked KDE fine. I actually think I liked it better than the Gnome version.

When I get the software moved between PCs I will probably try several versions of Linux.

Linux can be frustrating, especially with some motherboards. I've been a Linux user since 2001 (primarily Red Hat / Fedora Core) and skipped Fedora Core 2 on one of my machines because there was a known problem with the motherboard :(. I since have upgraded that machine to FC3 and FC5.

I've experimented a bit with SuSE 10.0 and Ubuntu 5.10. I don't know if it's my bias against KDE, but I found SuSE not to fill my bill (at least on my laptop). I would encourage you to try Ubuntu; they do have AMD64 versions. You might try the live CD to see if everything works first.

Thanks. I have to admit that Linux is not as easy to get running as Windows XP. I am considering switching PCs and putting XP on my new PC and Linux on my older PC. This is not a short term project.

Linus Torvalds was the finnish student, when he started to create Linux system!
Now he is living with his family in Santa Clara , California.

We must have always something new to make our brains working. Good luck with Linux!
