I live in Guatemala and plenty of chinese brands are taking some space in the local market. JMC pick-ups seem to be nothing but earlier Isuzus with even earlier isuzu engines, which might not be a bad thing considering the prices. About the security issues, the astonishment is understandable with european folks, but if you take in account some of the trucks that are still running in Latin American countries. Anyway, I do not know it the following brand has yet reached Panama; WangFeng, if it does you should check it, looks like it has a little better quality and a Nissan design 3.2 turbocharged engine. It appeared only a few years ago, so we still need to see if it is really what it seems (other brands like Tanta from India proved to be great dissapointments; might have been product's fault or dealer's fault, do not really know). Chinese brands sold in Guatemala: JMC, WangFeng, DongFeng, Great Wall, ZX Auto, Geely, etc.

The 4x4 pickup with double cabin was $15,900 and the SUV was $21,495. These were the asking prices and I didn't ask what they would sell them for. The SUV had leather interior, which looked nice. Too me this looked like an Isuzu Rodeo. I have seen the Chinese motorcycles here and they are about 1/3 of the cost of Japanese motorcycle. I have a hunch these will discount as well, I just don’t know how much.

So how much is it going for in Panama right now? My guess is that it would be better getting a second hand nissan or toyota as they seem to keep their price well in Panama.
