ASUS A8N—VM CSM Bad BIOS Update
Feb 7th, 2006 by Don Ray
I really would like to be writing something more related to living in Panama, but I can’t get past first base on solving this ASUS problem. I know now that the solution is to get ASUS to send me a new BIOS for the motherboard. But knowing and making it happen are two different things.
Today I called the ASUS BIOS Department in Kentucky for four straight hours. I got recordings. I used the techniques for getting to a real person only to learn that they were having telephone problems and the operator could not guarantee my ever getting to talk to a real live being in the BIOS department.
However, the sweet young voice on the recording in the BIOS Department, that kept saying that she was away from her desk filling BIOS orders, provided a URL to use if you wanted to purchase a BIOS. It was helpdesk.asus.com. Great, I thought. I will just order one and avoid the hassle of arguing that ASUS should provide the chip and shipping free of charge. I enter the URL and get the following:
Application ErrorNumber: -2147217843 (0×80040E4D)
Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
Description: Login failed for user ’sa’.No more information is available.

Is it me? Are the stars not lined up correctly?
Still there was one last option. The sweet young voice on the recording also provided her email address. I have sent her a message with my request and am awaiting an answer. Yes, it is really time for a margarita.
