Bad Ear Day
Feb 3rd, 2006 by Don Ray
On my trip to the US last month, I developed an ear infection. I think it was the change in temperature and the use central heating dried out my sinuses. Whatever the reason, I knew that I had to get it taken care of before I had to get on a plane again, because of the pressure on the eardrum. Luckily I have a friend who is a doctor and he gave me a prescription for some antibiotics (five days – 6 tablets = $48). I was amazed at the price, $8 per pill!
It took care of the problem enough so that I could head to Florida, but by the time I was ready to leave Florida, my ear problem was returning. After my week in Panama City, the ear was hurting again. So one of the first things I did after I got back to David was to go to an ear specialist. I just went to the office and waited. I had to wait for about 30 minutes. The last time I wanted to see a specialist in the US, they wanted over a week for the appointment.
My visit cost me $18.50 after my discount for the doctor visit. The doctor flushed out my ear and prescribed some drops ($8) and 10 days (20 tablets) of antibiotic. The antibiotic, which was the equivalent strength as that in the states, cost me $1.40 per tablet. Boy it is good to hear again!
