Club Soroptimista International de David - Christmas Is For Caring
Dec 14th, 2005 by Don Ray
I have been lucky enough to become acquainted with an organization (Club Soroptimista International de David) that challenges itself to do good for the less fortunate in the Chiriqui area. This weekend they have the first of two Christmas events scheduled.
They are bringing some Christmas cheer to about 200 children at a party in San Felix. They will have some goodies for each child and they have had four piñatas made for the children to have fun breaking open. This is a photo of the four piñatas.

The second is local and will be on December 24. Club Soroptimista International de David will be taking items to the Children’s hospital to outfit a play area for the children I had mentioned in a previous post. I am buying the television this weekend.

Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world.
Hi Annette. You probably took your statement from the Soroptimist International of the Americas home page.
In reading my post, I really didn’t give much information about the immense organization of Soroptimist International. The original Soroptimist Organization (recognized as the Founder Organization) started in Oakland, California in 1921.
From its beginning in 1921, it has grown to approximately 92,000 members located in 124 countries with 3100 clubs. In my opinion the Women’s Suffrage movement, which began in the early 1800s, influenced forming the Soroptimist Organization. The mission statement of Soroptimist seems to be aligned with that movement.
The activities I am aware of in David have all been related to children. The one I have contributed to is for the children in the cancer ward of the Children’s Hospital in David. Many of the mother’s of these children live with their children in the hospital.
The Soroptimist International organizations are doing a wonderful job of fulfilling their mission.
