First Step Toward A New PC
Nov 18th, 2005 by Don Ray
I was able to pick up the first piece of the new PC I am starting to
build with Alex at INFOX today. I took the opportunity to get his photo
when he showed me the case. He wasn’t there the day I took Melissa’s
photo. It took Alex a little time to come up with what I wanted.
However he never gave up and I am very happy with what he found. Alex
is standing with his right hand on a new Cooler Master Centurion
Micro-ATX case in Black. Now the search will continue for the
motherboard I want.

[...] I had looked at a solution with Alex at INFOX and finally decided to buy it. This portable drive fits in my shirt pocket and holds a 80 GB laptop hard drive. It also requires no external power. You just plug in the USB cable into the drive and PC and you are good to go. [...]
I have been reading & enjoying your blog for 4-6 weeks. Your photos make the entries much more interesting and informative for someone like me who isn’t familiar with the area. I am tgrying to learn more about life in Panama & the places around David. I live in Phoenix & don’t want to spend my summers here after I retire. I am looking at higher elevation areas in Mexico & Central America as a cooler summer alternative or possibly a year round residence.
I wuld like to know more about the 80 GB USB hard drive you illustrated. It looks perfect for backing up my photos and other laptop files. Was it a custom made solution or is it a brand name item?
I think Alex made it from a case he sells, but they are available in the US at any of the computer places. You just need to make sure it is powered by the USB port. You might check:

[...] I spent some time looking for a USB English keyboard and mouse. I went to three stores that sold keyboards, but most were not USB and all were Spanish. I finally went to INFOX expecting to have Alex order me what I needed from Panama and found out that he had a Logitech wireless English keyboard with integrated wireless mouse. That means I have less wires and more freedom of movement with both mouse and keyboard. [...]
[...] The first thing I needed to do was to create a similar environment on Linux that I had on Windows. I needed all my files that I normally use with my photos, bloggings, etc. Eventually, I will have this working via LAN, but for now, I chose to use the portable external disk that I bought from Alex at INFOX to move my files.
