There Is Not Much Traffic On The Extra Mile
Nov 7th, 2005 by Don Ray
I had felt that my move to Wordpress was the right choice to use for Web Log software. Today, that choice has been confirmed. While reading the Dallas Morning News, which is one of my morning reads, I saw that former Dallas Cowboy Quarterback, Roger Staubach has started his own Blog to communicate with his employees.
Now Roger could afford any software package on the market, but he chose Wordpress. Eat your heart out, Movabletype!
In reading some of his Blog, I was captured by the caption at the bottom of the Photo of Roger standing on the highway in his post “Extra Mile in HOV Lane”. “…There is not much traffic on the extra mile”. This is apparently one of his company’s mottos. Those of us that watched him so many years on the Dallas Cowboys know that those are not hollow words to him.
On this day, which will have many protests by Panamanian’s because of President Bush’s visit to Panama, I think it would be wise to remember that those of us that have chosen Panama as our retirement home, are merely guests. Our hosts are the Panamanian people and should be shown respect and appreciation for their hospitality. Maybe today would be a good day to “Go the Extra Mile” and do a good deed for someone that is in need. Certainly there are plenty to choose from.
If you can’t find any thing appropriate, I suggest at minimum a friendly smile. You will be surprised how good you feel when you receive a bigger one back.
Rodger, thanks for giving my day a little more focus.
