She Cried

She Cried
By Don Ray Williams

She cried for having met me.
I brought sorrow to her heart
I promised more than I delivered
So by choice we stayed apart.

The feelings that I had
Were as strong as they could be
But you can not hold a butterfly
You have to set it free.

Caged beauty sometimes withers
And that I do not want
And though I will release her
My memories, she’ll still haunt.

Yes, she cried for having met me
For this I’m so ashamed
I had held a golden butterfly
And nearly tore her wings.
